COVID-19 Office Policies and Protocols

Total Care Endodontics & Microsurgery, P.C.

COVID-19 Office Protocol

To protect the health of our patients and practice, the office is following the recommended CDC, OSHA, and ADA COVID-19 recommendations. In addition to what has been recommended we have implemented the following office policies and protocols. These policies and protocols will be in effect until further notice:

Prior to your appointment:

  • We will ask you multiple screening questions. If your response to any of the questions is “yes,” we may not be able to schedule your appointment immediately due to health concerns. If that is the case, we will schedule your appointment as soon as it is safe to do so
  • The screening questions are:
    • Have you or anyone you have come in contact with experienced any of the following symptoms?
      • Cough
      • Fever (persistent temperature over at or over 100oF or 37.78oC )
      • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
      • Chills
      • Muscle pain
      • Sore throat
      • Loss of taste or smell
    • Have you are anyone you have come in contact with been diagnosed with COVID-19?
    • Have you are anyone you have come in contact with been tested for COVID-19?
  • All patients must complete their patient registration online. The registration link will be emailed to you after making your appointment. To complete your online forms, you will receive an access code that will expire in 24 hours. If you lose this code or are not able to complete your forms within 24 hours, please call or email the office for a new access code.
  • To minimize contact between patients and staff, we are asking that you take a picture of the following documents below and e-mail them to us:
    • The front of your Driver’s License, State ID, or Picture Identification.
    • Front and back of your dental and medical insurance cards if you have coverage.
  • You will be contacted two days before your appointment, and the same pre-appointment screening questions will be asked again. In addition to this, we will inform you of your estimated out of pocket expense. This expense can be paid over the phone if paying with a card, or it can be paid in office.
    • If you prefer to cover your expense when you come to the office, we will disinfect your card prior to its use.
    • If you prefer to cover your expense with cash, we ask that you bring exact change.
    • If you prefer to cover your expense with a check, we will provide a pen that has already been disinfected.
  • Only one patient at a time is allowed in the office unless the patient is under 18 years old. We understand that partners and/or parents may want to be included in the endodontic treatment planning process. Dr. Uju will be available to speak with your partner or parent once the consultation is completed.
  • Until further notice, and to ensure maximum safety and sanitary conditions, only one patient is scheduled at a time.

Day of your appointment:

  • Unfortunately, there is no free parking available in front of or behind our building. The parking lot behind the office is designated for New Jersey Transit commuters only, and you will be subject to a ticket if you park in that space.
  • There are metered parking spots available either in front of the office or in the parking lot on 1st street. There are non-metered parking spots on 2nd street, east of Valley Street.
  • Since parking is by meter only, please either have quarters or dimes for the parking meter, or download the Mobile Now app to pay for your parking.
    • For your safety and our protection, we will no longer be able to provide change or fill your parking meter.
  • Once you park, please call the office to confirm that it is safe to enter the office.
  • Once it is safe to enter the office, we will leave the door open for you to walk through.
  • Face mask or face covering is mandatory in order to enter the office space.
  • For your safety and protection, our staff will also be wearing face masks and goggles or glasses at all times.
  • Upon entering the office space:
    • You will be given a disinfectant wipe for your hand.
    • Your temperature will be checked with a touchless forehead thermometer.
    • The same COVID-19 questions will be asked to see if there have been any new changes and/or developments.
    • We will then ask for your method of payment, if payment has not already been secured.
  • A staff member will provide a beverage (water, tea, coffee, ensure, or juice) upon request.
    • Unfortunately, at this time, only staff members may access the fridge, and seating is not available in the patient lounge area.
  • Once payment has been made, our staff will open all doors to the evaluation and treatment rooms. Feel free to use the touchless hand sanitizer in the hallway prior to being seated.
  • We take several steps to thoroughly disinfect and sterilize the entire office space, including all treatment areas, between patients. The barriers that are in place on the patient chairs are brand new, so please make yourself comfortable.
  • Once you are seated in the chair, we will have you rinse for 30 seconds with diluted hydrogen peroxide to help eliminate any bacteria and viruses that are in your mouth. After rinsing, there is no need to place your masks over your nose and mouth.
  • Dr. Uju will be wearing an isolation gown, masks, goggles, and face shields when you visit. We assure you that behind this heavy artillery, she is still smiling and committed to taking care of your endodontic needs.
  • We will give you safety goggles to wear prior to Dr. Uju beginning her consultation or treatment.
  • Dr. Uju will proceed to perform her consultation and/or treatment on you.
  • If this is your 1st time in our office and endodontic (root canal) treatment is required, we will have you sign the endodontic treatment consent form. This is the only paper document you will have to sign. The document will be on a clipboard that has been disinfected and sterilized. You will be given a brand new pen to sign the document.
  • If you are to receive treatment during your appointment, Dr. Uju will proceed with administering local anesthesia. Once anesthesia has taken effect, and Dr. Uju confirms that you are completely numb, we will place a rubber dam (blanket) over your tooth. This rubber dam has always been part of our standard of care when administering endodontic treatment. It will cover your mouth and nose and protect you from any aerosols and bacteria during treatment.
  • During treatment, the room doors and windows are left open to allow for maximum air circulation.

After your appointment:

  • Please remain in the room after your appointment is complete.
  • You will be escorted out of the room, and the staff will arrange for any additional appointments that may be required. You will also be given a post treatment instruction sheet, which can be photographed or emailed to you upon request.
  • The front door to the office will be left open for you, please exit and leave the door open.
  • Please inform us if you develop any COVID-19 symptoms within 2-14 days after your visit.

Your safety and well-being are our utmost priority. We ask for your continued patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. We are stronger together and will continue to take care of you and your endodontic needs. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions and/or concerns.
